Susan spent years studying clarinet from elementary school on and was a student at the Manhattan School of Music and took private lessons at Oberlin College. When she discovered English Country dancing, she found her true clarinet calling: here is a musical form that combines the best of classical music and improv. Susan is a part of the critically acclaimed CD, “Full Swing” featuring some of New England’s finest contra dance musicians. Not only does her calling and singing appear on this recording, but she wrote an entertaining companion booklet tracing the roots of New England contra dancing and a guide for new callers.Along with Rachel Bell, Susan plays and teaches French dancing and sings en français! And her singing can be heard on Rachel Bell’s CD, Tone Chamber and on “Pris au Jeu” by the Quebecois band, Domino.
